Arlington Democrats March for Unity and Freedom for Families

Arlington Democrats March for Unity and Freedom for Families

Arlington, VA – June 20, 2018— Arlington Democrats are bonding together again to march for the families torn apart by the Trump Administration – which stooped to taking children as hostages to create leverage for the unpopular and extreme Trump-GOP immigration agenda. The Executive Order signed does not solve the problem that more than 2000 children are separated from their families, crying in shelters thousands of miles from their parents. The Order does not reunify those children with their families. The Order does not guarantee that families will not continue to be separated. And the Order leaves open the possibility of indefinite detention for children and their families.

Arlington Democrats are proud that our Governor Ralph Northam recalled state troopers home so that the Commonwealth will not be complicit in this human rights tragedy.  We are proud that our Attorney General Mark Herring is suing to keep families together.  This is the difference it makes to have Democrats in office!  We need more leaders like them who will tackle immigration reform with practical, humane, and fact-based solutions – not political bombast that victimizes innocent children.

And Arlington Democrats are doing our part to resist with the Unity and Freedom for Families Weekend of Action.  Join us to fight for all families to be together.  Join us to send the message that children are not a tool of negotiation; and that this policy needs to be stopped.  Now.  These families need to be reunited.  Now.
