Arlington Democrats voted overwhelmingly to oppose the Redistricting Amendment 1 at their meeting on August 5, 2020. In 2019, Arlington Democrats called for independent, nonpartisan redistricting, a process Arlington Democrats still support. But the process proposed in the amendment is neither independent nor nonpartisan. Adopting this amendment will not end gerrymandering as it leaves the Virginia Legislature in control of the redistricting process.
